Ok looking for some imput for a 1-300 yard scope for my new sg 542
just so we understand the dynamics I have a 6.5 that shoots pin holes out at 600-800 scope 8x32x56
and a big 7mm mag that picks up the slack from 800-1200 scope 10x 50 x56
so this little 308 will be my 1-300 yard close up and personal deer / close quarter elk /moose
i like to see what I'm shooting at so I'm thinking 4x14 or a 4 x16
but want something light and compact ... Trying to keep the weight down

I'm going to try a couple:

TA33 Acog (3x) (very light)
NF 2.5-10x24 (heavy)
Aimpoint CompM4S (pretty light)

I figure with a 200 yard zero, I should be able to reasonably shoot 300 with the CompM4. Like you said, it's going to fill a niche... don't think it will be as accurate as my longer range guns, but that's fine with me.

Bigger optic will be a bit of a waste, in my opinion. No reason you need 16x at 300 yards on a deer!
