Would there be anything wrong with slightly rounding the outside corners of the rear sight on my Shadow so that it's not quite so pointy? I would make sure the finish/colour is the same as original once i'm done. I use it for Production division.

Why trim ?

All I did was give the corners a few light strokes with a small flat needle file, then touched up the area with some cold bluing.

Yes you can trim the sights. However, trimming is not defined in the rules. Based on a Global Village discussion on a vaguely similar question, there is a range of opinion on what constitutes legal sight trimming. Until a clear definition shows up in the rule book or an official interpretation is published on this question, the official answer to this question will be up to the Range Master and, if necessary, an Arbitration Committee at every match you attend with those modifications.

That can't be correct,....after market and or just about any sights you want that or not electrically powered are allowed in production division,...what you can't do is alter the slide to fit the sights. (ie: you can't weld it, or re-cut a channel for the sights)

The Rulebook said:
19. Original parts and components offered by the OFM as standard equipment, or as an option, for a specific model handgun on the IPSC approved handgun list are permitted, subject to the following:
19.1. Modifications to them, other than minor detailing (the removal of burrs and/or adjustments unavoidably required in order to fit replacement OFM parts or components, and/or identifying marks which add or remove negligible weight to/from magazines), are prohibited. Other prohibited modifications include those which facilitate faster reloading (e.g. flared, enlarged and/or add-on magwells, etc.) changing the original color and/or finish of a handgun, and/or adding stripes or other embellishments.
19.3. Sights may be trimmed, adjusted and/or have sight black applied.
20. Aftermarket parts, components and accessories are prohibited, except as follows:
20.2. Aftermarket open sights (see Rule 5.1.3.1) are permitted, provided their installation and/or adjustment requires no alteration to the handgun.
I'm not saying that PD rules make any sense at all, but although you can replace the OFM sights with any non-OFM open sights and modify them in any way that you choose, a strict interpretation of the current rules means that you are limited in what you can do to OFM sights. I am just saying that some RM and/or AC might reasonably interpret the modifications that the OP made to be beyond the scope of "minor detailing (... adjustments unavoidably required in order to fit ... )" or "trimmed, [or] adjusted". Of course, this only applies if he is using OFM sights, which I don't think he stated specifically. If they are non-OFM, then please ignore what I just said.

I think 19.3 over would over ride 19, 19.1. 20.2 says its is ok for aftermarket sights, but that would not be relevant, as 19.3 has you covered.

Wow - intense set of rules for IPSC, and the commensurate discussion of the possible interpretations is reminiscent of the same for firearms laws.

Remember guys - don't go full retard.
