So I have a mr920 that is optics ready and when I tried putting a red dot on yesterday, the screw holes don't quite line up. I have a Burris fast fire and a vortex that I tried but they need to sit slightly farther back on the slide to line up. Should I try another red dot or shave off a little bit of either the slide or one of the red dots I'm trying to use

A lot of optics need an adapter plate to mount the optic to the pistol, so adapter plate to optic cut on slide then your optic mounts to the plate. I believe the Vortex takes a Doctor/Noblex footprint optic plate( there are numerous different optic “ footprints “, look it up online) to mount. I personally use CHPWS plates

That makes way more sense, thanks for the info

Shadow systems has a unique red dot mounting system where the red dot is mounted directly to the slide. You don’t need adapter plates. They also use spacers to firm up the mounting of the red dot . If you go to the shadow systems website and look for “patented mounting system”, they have a table of which sights can be mounted, which spacers to use, and which particular factory screws to use.

Not all of the red dots can be mounted to shadow systems slides, I don’t think Vortex red dots can be mounted for instance.

I have found on my shadow systems that this is a really good system for secure, mounting of the red dot, without having the adapter plate there is less to come loose

Good info, had no idea that Shadow Systems was unique 👍

I have a DR920 and it uses the same mounting system, it's RMR compatible. I use a Holosun 507 and after a couple thousand rounds, no issues with it.
