Okay No answers that sound like buy a Glock!

I have a CZ Shadow2, Love the feel of it and i like the way it fits my hnd but the safety is a bit hard to reach with my thumb to put it on safe. Off is easy on is tough.

I have been thinking of changing to the right hand extended safety, is this something I can do myself or should I get a gunsmith to do it?

I live in the cariboo in BC so have to drive to a gunsmith just saying

It's a 6.5/10 on the difficulty scale. Some tiny parts you need to watch out for that are under spring tension that can go flying but can be done at home if you're not all thumbs kinda person. It's a sub-10min job.

Ha, I forgot I made this thread a while ago....

LOL okay you better come do it LOL

Thanks for the great info I think I will find a smith to take it to

I am not all thumbs but a little leary about screwing it up and having to send it somewhere in pieces

Smart move on the gunsmith. Some guys are like ducks taking to water when it comes to CZ's and the CZ trigger group including the safeties. While others (like me) tend to try, lose small springs and other bits, and end up paying a 'smith to find replacement parts and then install them. Been there with my old Shadow. Doesn;='t CZ make a larger safety for the Shadow2? Maybe Slavex will come on and give you some options. He is one of the guys who takes apart Shadows before breakfast and while he is having ###. He should be be able to help you.

Just curious, and maybe this will save you some cash.... but do you need to put the safety on with one finger? I have the flush safeties on my Shadow, and if I need to put the safety on, I use a finger and thumb, one on each side, to lift the levers up together. Mine is a snug fit.

fwiw, I never put the safety on normally. Some stages at a match may require doing that if getting up from prone, etc, as part of the stage procedures.

I have a mechanical background and found it easy enough to do. It kind of depends on your comfort level. I did a full detail/spring swap recently.

(I also practiced on my wife CZ75 before tearing into my competition rig)

If you have the proper punches, and the willingness to learn, I would say go for it.

This was the best video I found.

There are times that it has to be on. I can actually reach it best with the knuckle on my trigger finger but its a might hard on the skin

swapping out safeties on a Shadow or Shadow 2 is literally a 1 minute job, all you need is a small jewelers screwdriver and maybe a soft headed hammer. Watch a couple videos and give'r.
But why are trying to put the safety on in any kind of manner?
If you are really stuck on this and happen to be down on the coast swing by and I can swap it for you.

I told you he changes safeties while he is in the middle of ###. Jeez Rob it took more time than that to realize I just heard a spring fly off into the ether never to be seen again.

I would have to see someone do a safety swap in sub 60 seconds before I would believe it. Video or it didn't happen.

3gun?
I may or may not know a guy (who lives in my mirror) who earned some Dairy Queen placing his Shadow down a titch aggressively, knocking the safety off...I like the flush safeties:).

Okay Smelly Pete, Did you shoot the 2017 match? Maybe, no for sure I need more practice, otherwise I will have to buy a Glock and I just can't do it

Yup. I'm rugerman's buddy from down on the coast? The stage I was referring to was at the...2015?...match, on the cowboy bay; all pistol through the windows, place Shadow very ungently on the dump table/barrel, off like a shot to grab my shotgun, happily blasting clays when I hear the ARO behind me talking to the RO about...something...can't quite hear it....but it sounds bad. Sigh, stop, ask what I did, he points to my pistol. Sad panda...also stupid panda, my fault completely. Whoo hoo! Look how fast I can run! Not fast enough to outrun that DQ:).

I agree with Slavex mostly, there's not a lot of use for the safety (quickly) in the games we play up here, and if you're going to dump your pistol, it doesn't need to be with the safety on...but it's your gun, and what fun is owning them if you can't modify them to suit you? Many times I've had parts bought for guns I hadn't purchased yet:). If you don't like the safety, rip that sucker off there!
