I thought I'd share my unhappy experience with Sharp Shooter Supply.

Mid-July 2010 I placed an order for a fred-sled (single shot magazine adapter) and a smooth barrel nut wrench (as I have an accustock model). They charged my Mastercard that day. After not receiving anything for 6 months, I called Dec 30 & Jan 6, and they said they had to make a new batch of wrenches. After still not receiving anything, I called Mar 30 & Apr 4, and emailed Apr 6, to finally learn that they can no longer ship anything to Canada.

In the email they asked for my MC number so they could refund the original charge from 9 months ago. Sending a CC number over email is not secure, so I asked them to call me. They haven't, and haven't responded to subsequent emails. I find it impossible to get through on the phone because it's always, always busy.

What are my options? MC won't dispute the charge because it's more than a month old, and I never was given a concrete date on when I was supposed to receive the order. I can't get through to SSS. The US better business bureau website already has 4 unresolved cases with SSS, and states that SSS does not respond to their inquiries. Is there an appropriate police agency to report them to?

With regards to my rifle, I'm going to pipewrench off the smooth barrel nut and install an old-style nut with a Wheeler wrench from Jerry.

UPDATE: I received a refund on May 2.

After not hearing back from Lisa in a while, I started to think about police agencies. One day after work I called the RCMP, and they recommended I call the business and fraud department during business hours. However, that night I received another email from Lisa. A few emails back and forth and she called me, got my CC #, and applied a refund. I am out a few bucks because I payed and was refunded in USD, but the Canadian dollar is up a fair bit. Oh well.

So my advice is to email Lisa everyday asking her to call you, get your CC #, and apply a refund.

I too have ordered from SSS, got two extended center feed mags, they shipped one and stated that they had to put the other one on the next run shipment. This is a year ago. When the next run came out they then stated that they can't ship to Canada. I asked for a refund for the one mag that didn't ship. They said that I need to find a US address to ship it to then I can get a "friend" to bring it across. They stated that it isn't their fault the laws don't allow for them ship mags so no refund... I am SOL. I figured it would rack that up to experience and order only locally.

SSS is horrible to deal with.

I agree it's not their fault they cannot ship to Canada. However, it's plain wrong to not give you a refund for what they won't send you. I really think they deserve to be reported to a police agency.

I can try the snail mail to send my CC number, but if I don't get a refund I want to call the FBI.

Sorry to hear that. I think that type of behavior is becoming a habit for them. I remember reading something about them on a board in the States.

This is far too similar to the SureSight fiasco.

Countless consumers were swindled, with no recourse available.

Hopefully karma catches up with them. Quickly.

Complain to the credit card companies... since they won't listen to BBB, maybe they'll listen if the CC companies get nervous and start talking about taking away their ability to charge customers... Might take more complaints than these, but it's a start.

Never dealt with them, but here is an option for you guys that didn't get your stuff. I also have no idea as to the amount of $ you are owed for the goods. Perhaps you could find someone on a US gun forum someone that you could have it shipped to.

If they said they will ship it to a US address, well then find them an address :) You may be able to get most of your cost back by selling the item to someone in the US.

If it were me, if I couldn't sell it I would give it away just to make SSS pay.

.

Its always busy because guys in similar situations are wanting to know the status of the stuff they have been waiting a life time for.

Keep calling once you get it to ring stay on the phone. Count the rings. eventually you will be cut off. Call again and count the rings. Always a different number of rings before being cut off.

Eventually the little elf that cuts you off gets tired and Lisa will answer all pleasant and friendly like.

+1 Warrenb.

Check 6mmBr and SH fora for posts on experiences with SSS.

But the smooth nut looks so much better... :(

I'm a form follows function kind of guy. Besides, I think the square notch barrel nut has a cool steampunk kind of look to it.

yodave, I don't know exactly why they can't ship to Canada, but I think it has something to do with the US state dept suddenly cracking down on them, along with US customs not letting some Canadian shipments through. Doesn't seem to be their fault. Their customer service is what is horrible.

In this thread there are already four people who have been ripped off by this company. I'm going to do some research, then update my first post with any options we might have.

Just give them your CC #. If there is a fraudulent purchase after that, you are not liable for it.

Feel safe from unauthorized purchases. On the Web. Or anywhere else. You’re always secure.

Who Is Protected?

If you’re a MasterCard® credit card cardholder, you’ll receive the benefit of Zero Liability in the event of the unauthorized use of your Canadian-issued MasterCard card. Zero Liability is provided under the following conditions:

•you have an account in good standing, and
•you have exercised reasonable care in safeguarding your card, and
•you have not reported two or more unauthorized events in the past 12 months.

Zero Liability does not apply to MasterCard cards issued: to an entity other than a natural person; primarily for business, commercial, or agricultural purposes; outside of Canada.

How Are You Protected?
If someone makes an unauthorized purchase using your MasterCard card number, you will not be responsible for that purchase.

They likely have not jumped through the hoops and paid the fees for an export license.

The Other option is lodge a compalaint with the US Post master general That will shake there tree .In the US the Post office is a very powerful agencie and mail fraud is taken seriously and yes Canadians can file a complaint

This has nothing to do with USPS. There was no mail fraud.

why excactly is it that they can no longer ship to canada? I mised it

Dave, I'm pretty sure they could ship. But they would have to care about their Canadian market enough to go through the exportation adminstration and the fees included.

Personally, (and maybe I'm a bit soft in the head) I find this quite sad. SSS make very good products, I think they are like any business they want to please their customers and have a hassle free existance. Unfortunately in my experience things seem to go down hill rapidly when you ask "How long to shipping?".

They did give the guys at work a good laugh though. While I waited a year for delivery on my 8 week stock, my colleagues never forgot to give me the weekly reminder that my stock was due any day now. LOL!
