What material do you guys use for powder coating? and where do you pick it up at?

I have lots of things fresh cast and want to try powder coating. Do they still need sizing? some say Yes, Some say No??

I started out with princess auto blue powder works ok, have since got some tool blue from Emerald Coatings haven’t tried it yet. Sizing depends on the mold and the gun they will be fired in, powder coating adds 1.5-2 thousands in diameter, I size if required after powder coating.

Went down the same road. Found the Eastwood at KMS and prefer it to the PA stuff.
The clear goes on thinner than the colours I've used so far so you have a little control over diameter with powder choice. It's a great way to gain a couple thousandths if needed or you size back down.
Some like to size first or both before and after but I haven't tried that. Might be wise if going down more than 2 or 3 thousandths.

KMS Tools sells Eastwood powder coat. I use their clear. I size after coating.

That is exactly what I do. When I started powder coating, I tried the red and black from Princess Auto. The red wouldn't coat at all and the black was slightly better. I then tried the Eastwood...I barely swirl the margarine container 5 times and everything is nicely coated! Lesson learned. I like the look of lead, so clear it is for me.

While I have used and had good luck with Emerald coatings Clear and Gloss Black, Tool Blue is the gold standard if you want good coverage using shake & bake. A chimpanzee could get near 100% coverage using it.

Biggest problem I have is every person says to use Eastwood this or other brands but when I go to Amazon or other sites not one of them use the wording you use to describe it. I need to order the right powder once and it has to be the correct kind. Amazon especially since I get free shipping . Princess Auto no longer sells powder coatings also so that is out anyways. I googled Eastwood and all I can find is companies that use it not ones that sell it. KMS really doesn't show powder coats that sound like what you guys use . It for you maybe showed a package or container that I could match to what I find on line would really help. Also with Eastwood I just find ceramic paints which I am sure isn't the right thing.

Amazon? No wonder you have issues

Any of these should work nicely

Dont over think this, PCing is more weather controlled than the color or make is... I have use a lot of different colors & for different sources that ,basicaly every one of them worked, but I live in the arid dry mid Ab. If you live in a humid damp climate your going to have to try different days with different powders for perfect results every time.
"perfect results every time" is something I have come to the conclusion that isn't required...they look nice but the odd small splotch on a side wall wont affect the shootability one iota. I can't say that I have ever had a "color " failure from over the dozen or so I've tried but I do have a couple of favorites that have characteristics that seem to work well for me Satin Black from Emerald and a John Deere yellow of unknown origin that I got as a surplus from a local commercial coater that he wasnt ever going to use. That is my favorite powder sources, local comercial coaters with color over-buys that are waste to them ( usually free, that JD yellow was a full paint can with 10 lifetime of powder for my usage).
One thing you never want to use if given some is metal flake powder...you sure don't want that abrasive metal flake skowering down your nice pristine sharp bore lands.

My buddy uses Princess Auto red and blue. Sizes afterwards. I bought some flat orange from The Powdercoat Store in the states, it does not stick well and degrades faster than the Princess Auto stuff when exposed to Titegroup.

Purchased mine at KMS...Eastwood Hot Coat Full Gloss Clear. Comes in 8oz bottle or 1lb bag. It is white in color and becomes clear when baked.

I tried the Princess Auto blue. I never got good results.
Emerald Coatings Tool Blue. I haven't seen a powder that gives better, more consistent coverage although I did buy a similar coloured powder (just lightly darker) from Columbia Coatings in the US and it's performance was just about as good.

I've been mixing different powder coat colours and since then never had issues with coverage/sticking. White and Black on themselves don't usually coat very well but together create a nice marble grey and coat 100%

I have found that Emerald Gloss Black actually coats very well with shake & bake (95%+). Pre-heating the bullets seems to help a lot. What I have had zero luck with is green PC. I've tried pre-heating, airsoft BBs, plastic bag in a vibratory tumbler, etc. and got bupkus (like maybe 25% coverage). Maybe I should mix the green with Tool Blue. Those blended colour bullets you sent me looked real good.

Agreed black does coat about 80-95% but mixed with another colour they really coat well.

How did they perform?

I use the gloss black on my 200 gr. SWC 45 bullets. Excellent performance out of my Kimber Stainless II Target. Also shot well out of my M&P 45.

Living in the Vancouver area , always high humidity I have found Princess Auto and Harbour Freight powders for me just plain suck . I have four different Eastwood powders, two work great , two do not. I tried shack and bake with bbs and without, no difference for me. I have tried reduced temps and reduced times gives me the same results.
