Shank diameters - Thread pitch

I would appreciate it if one of you knowledgeable 'smiths out there could give me the Barrel Shank diameter (and depth), as well as the thread pitch on a Winchester M70, a Ruger M77 and a Remington M700. I am thinking about a project, and would like to see if what I have can be made to work. Thanks in advance, Eagleye.

You will have to be more specific. Are you talking about the thread on the barrel Or the thread pitch on any number of screws on the gun itself?

A factory 700 is 16 t.p.i. very close to 1.060" in diameter, about .875" long with a bolt nose recessed .150" deep about .705" in diameter.

Do a search for "Haas", as is Frank de Haas. The following is out of his book.

M77 .998" major diameter
.690 depth to shoulder
16v tpi

M70 1.00" major diameter
16v tpi
41`cone, .430" slot and .740" depth to shoulder for the pre 64
35` cone, .240" slot [stepped] .835" depth to shoulder for model 54 & 70

Both the M70 and the M77 are nominally 1"x16tpi. The Remington is nominally 1 1/16"x16tpi.
The exception is the latest of the Winchester WSSM actions which are 1/16"x 28tpi (if I remember right)
Factory take-off barrels can work out just fine but the fitting is not always as straight forward as one might hope. In general, thread pitch and diameter is among the least of the problems. Regards, Bill
