Anyone have a good 7MM rem mag recipe they would like to share, I plan on using Hornady 162 gr SST, or 162 gr A-MAX MOLY . What powder are you using? I figured on H4831 SC but would love to hear some suggestions and insights. This would be loaded into neck-sized shells and fired from my T/C Encore, heavy barrel.

7mm

I shoot 160gr partitions using 81gr H870 and get 3130fps but Hodgdon do not produce this powder any more but if you can find it, use it. I did try some Retumbo and got 3060 fps and both gave great accuracy.

All my good loads for the 7RM revolve around 140, 160, and 175 gr bullets.

I use a Federal215M primer and:

H4831 SC, RL22 and IMR 7828.

WHile I have used other powders with sucess, these are the ones that I will reach for first when loading the 7RM.

RL22 and IMR7828 really seem to be the ticket with the 160-175gr bullets.
:)

H870 was DA BOMB, back when you could get the stuff :(

77.7 gr, pushing a 165gr partition just under 3300 fps and one-hole groups at 100 :D

*NOTE: THIS IS OVER THE MAXIMUM PUBLISHED LOAD. WORKS FINE IN MY RIFLE, BUT MAY EXPLODE YOURS

in most rifles in good condition, 65 grs. H4831sc or RL22 will push a 160 gr. to 3000 fps +/- in a 24-26" tube

Id also look at RL25 with heavier bullets

Hi Gilly,

I find that H4831 works well for me. Didn't try other powders yet as I had good results with that one so far.. :D

With my Tikka 7MM RemMag, these 2 loads work good and are accurate enough.

This one, I used on a deer a couple years ago. It was a nice 9 pointer that I shot quite far (250yds +) but the results were excellent = dead deer  .

H4831/63.0gr, 140gr Nosler Ballistic tip, CCI mag primer.

For moose, I use this load and was able to try it on a cow moose 2 years ago. Also a long shot, around +- 800ft. Good accuracy, consistant and with the Accubond, good weight retention. She was facing, bullet hit between neck and shoulder and I found it barely touching the filet mignon  , but no waste :D .

H4831/60.0gr, 160gr Accubond, CCI Mag primer.

Good luck

There is a load I use which is so uniformly excellent, that it's what I will try first in any 7mm Remington Magnum that I'm testing: 162 grain Hornady pushed by 62 grains of IMR 4831. The same load works with the 160 Partition.

For some reason, this is one of those magic accuracy loads. If the rifle doesn't like it, then I would suspect the rifle or the scope, not the load.

Other excellent loads are 65 grains of Reloder 22 or H4831, with the same bullets. These loads aren't as consistently accurate, however.

65 grains of Norma MRP makes a "magic" load for my 7mm Rem Mag [700 Classic] with the 160/162 grain bullets. Even the Partition gets inside 1" with this load. The Chrony says 3060, and that is just fine for my work. The 62 grains of IMR 4831 is a good load as well, but about 40 fps slower in my rifle. Regards, Eagleye.

Hi Gilly,

I load the 162 Gr SST's for my nephew in Battleford. Do to the distance between us we couldn't really work up a load. I just loaded these about 2 grains below max. I know I used Remington large rifle magnum primers but I'll need to look up which powder and the charge when I get home. Also, avoid Federal Brass. At least with his rifle the primer pockets swell even on the first firing and it's not worth reloading.

He's a good shot but these loads seemed to work very well. I saw him take coyotes, mule deer and white tails all on the fly.

I'm using 62 gr. IMR 4831 & Win Mag primers with 162gr SST's in my Ruger MkII stainless I'm getting 2950fps & pretty good groups inside one inch. Also use 66 gr IMR4831 with 140 gr accubonds 3200fps & good groups.
