I haven't been able to get west to hunt the last couple of years. Wondering if anyone has some thoughts about the Hun and sharp tail populations, how they fared the last couple of years and prospects for Fall 2012.

I'm thinking south and west of Swift Current right down to the US border along with the Alberta border.

I live right smack in the middle of that area and I can say that locally the birds have not recovered from the killing winter of 2011. Last fall there were not enough birds to even hunt and so far nothing has changed. Population crash, year 2. Shoulda been here 3 years ago!

Shredder, I was. For several years running until a separation from my wife cause a long term separation from my guns. Two seasons worth.

I have usually based myself around Kincaid and hunted south and west from there. Sounds like they need more time to recover.

I Agree, I go all over southwest sask for work and run my dog in the country for training and Huns and sharptails are tough to find. Conditions were great for them this winter, so hoping for a good hatch.

Slightly off topic: I hunt in the northeastern part of Alberta. Sharptail and hungarian partridge populations have been depressed here for the past 2 years, also. Ruffed grouse populations were strong last fall, though.

I`m north of Swift Current and our bird population was decimated as well, seeing a few pairs now but last fall there were very few birds to be seen at harvest.
