Well the Withworth express rifle in 458 win mag is back home after a little trip to the smith Gary Flach for some work. You might remember that one as I had issues with rear and front sight not wanting to stay on, well he fixed that and even added a front sight band to make sure it stays on( and plus it really look good) but before that I had him chop the barrel to 21” not too short not too long and it looks fantastic, he reinstalled everything and ceracoated the barrel black( I don’t really like the look and feel of ceracoating but that is the way it is). He adjusted the trigger to a better feel, not perfect cause those triggers are not perfect lol.
I put it back together now and remounted the scope a nice B&L Balvar 1.5-6 with a good 3.5” of eye relief.
The entire thing right at 9lbs, add a sling that I will make this week and load it up and I should be a hair under 10lbs, a bit light for a 458 win mag but it will do!
I will try and go to the range tomorrow to re zero it and see how much velocity I lost.

LOL!! Probaby will shoot good, kills on one end and wounds on the other. I could never shoot or hunt with such cartridge, I'm a chicken. Beautiful rifle!
Well I have to be honest here with 500gn at 2150fps she ain’t worth it…. But with 350gn going 2550fps she’s alright, that said it will not become my primary gun, especially at the range lol, kick too much and cost too much to shoot. I have a load with cast bullets and quite bit of them that is also alright to shoot and cheaper by quite a bit!

Nice Rifle 👍 Bison - Bear- Moose Thumper ! What’s your favourite Load - Bullet to Hunt with or have yiu shot any game yet 😊
Didn’t shoot anything yet with it, so far I’m quite confident( I don’t know why) in the 350gn TSX, shoots good and recoil ain’t too too bad, I also have some 350gn Speer hotcor that shoot same as the tsx and the 480gn gas checked cast bullet load that is good too. I need to get back to the range to re zero and get use to it again! I like how handy it is now !

Well I managed an outing to the range today and shot about 12-14 rounds out of her, I had a hard time to sight my scope and I don’t know why, usually it’s like 2-3 rounds and done, but for some reasons not today not with that rifle. The trigger isn’t as good as I thought it was gonna be, so I think I will upgrade it to a Timney if I can find one( I looked at a bunch of sites and nothing). My best group was a 4 shots in 3” at 100m. Some of it is the trigger, some of it is all the layers I was wearing and some of it is the recoil pad shoulder thingy to try to save what is left of my bad shoulder hahaha. Oh and I’m sure there is a bit of me fault also, I know I was anticipating the shot, but controlled my self good enough to not flinch( I’m pretty good usually so I think I did good again hahaha).
Of course the loads fired were developed before I got the barrel cut down, so maybe that as some effect?
Anyway I need to spend more time behind that rifle before I take it out hunting!

If you are ever going to use the irons I'd check/zero them at 25 yards.

I've found on my barrel chops, due to the barrel taper raising the moved front sight higher I needed to get a different height front sight and maybe lower the rear sight
I definitely want to use the open sights, I think I will check point of impact using some 485 grains gaz checked cast bullets.
