Why does this stuff keep getting dumped in my lap? LOL....I guess I'm the only Gun-nut around these parts.

Double action revolver, percusiion cap, marked "John Bissett 322 High Holbrn London" along the top strap, and "No 7362 T" on the right side below the cyl. Lots of engraving including some screw heads......Oh gurus of the pistol realm, dig deep in your knowledge and lay it on me! First one to identify it as a priceless antique gets a cookie!

Are you sure it's "Bissett"? Here's a page showing a nice pepperbox made by a "Blissett", that looks like the same address:

I don't know the exact model but that looks like a William Tranter style revolver made by V. & R. BLAKEMORE

Blissett

I did a little digging and came up with this: John Blissett 1835-1854at 3 addresses, 69 Leaden Hall St , 74 High Holborn, 321 High Holborn. 1854-1900 at 322 High Holborn, London, England . The pepperbox revolver had 6 percussion barrels and was a 41 percussion. I think this is a Adams type revolver with the octagon barrel. It came in single or double action and was a 44 percussion. There was also T. Blissett making revolvers in London 1863-1900. with the RIC model (Royal Irish Constabulary) in 380REV & 455 REV. Either way this is classed as an antique. Blisset made some very nice guns, including the hunting rifles that went with John Hanning Speake when he "discovered" the source of the Nile. Speake and Grant also took 500 Enfield muzzle loaders with them, I guess travelling light wasn't an option. The supplies for the expedition are listed in Speke's book " A Walk Across Africa".

You can find out a little more about Blisset if you can get a copy of "Boothroyd's Directory". I have a copy somewhere, I will see if I can find it.

Heres what I managed to find out so far.....

It is a Tranter Patent marked D/A 5 chamber percussion, manufactured by John Blissett between 1850 and 1857 (before the co. became "Blissett and sons")

Now.....if I could just find out what it's worth.
