shell latch

I was cleaning my 20yr old 870 Express last weekend when one of the shell latches fell out. Is this a common problem?

It happens often. I had one fall out of my old 1970's 870 and still have not re-staked it. It works fine though, you just have to bend,cut & shape a piece of coathanger wire to hold it there by the hole in it if you remove the trigger group and breech for cleaning or whatever, and want to re-assemble your gun.
