Shell stuck in my AR chamber, Help?

Please clarify, did extractor manage to slip over case head / break or is bolt and carrier still in battery .

For obvious reasons you can't just pound it out with a cleaning rod if bolt is still in battery

I highly doubt you ripped the case head

can you operate the bolt?
If its stuck in there and the bolt is still in battery (locked), just mortar the rifle. While pulling on the charging handle, slam the stock on the rifle in the ground.
If the bolt is still in battery do not pound it with a cleaning rod!

Ah just read your answer, nevermind, you'll need to pound it out with a rod then.

I believe the extractor slipped over. Never had this problem before. Bolt and carrier are removed at the moment.

Ahh...ok. As others suggested pound away !

To make a long story short, the steel case does not expand as well to seal the case body against the chamber walls ( obturate ) . The result is there is a bit more carbon buildup form gases in the chamber wall

Contrary to popular belief it is not because many steel cases are lacquer coated . This has been discussed to death on the internet

Eventually build up can stick case in chamber

Here is a pic of Wolf 7.62 ( NON lacquer coated BTW ) that actually ejected out of a AR . Ejection became sluggish about 30 rounds before I saw this lying on the ground !

I kept pounding away ( another 200+ rounds ) before it finally stuck a case . Didn't take too much to pop out

I always have a chamber rod with a 44cal brush to make a quick pass in the chamber periodically when shooting the steel case 7.62 and 5.56 . You would be surprised how much crap comes out of the chamber

Awesome, thanks

I always carry a brass rod for such occasions for knocking out a squib round (which I had to do a couple weeks ago).

And one of these...

Home Depot for the brass rod. Comes in a 3' length and various diameters. I just cut it down to 26" and put a couple wraps of electrical tape about 4" from the end to help center the rod when it is in the bore so I'm knocking the bullet out from the tip and not wedging between the side of the bore and bullet. The remaining 10" cut-off I used for pistols.

The broken case extractor I got from Brownells. One for 223 (part # 080-000-441WB) and other for 308.
