Does anyone who used to shoot at the now defunct Strathcona Range in Edmonton remember when the incidents of "bullet planting into homes" by residents of the nearby infringing housing projects. I believe the time was in the late 80's. The objective was to shut down the range by infringing housing projects.

Any help for more source contacts and/or documentation would be extremely helpful before I try to obtain EPS records. I am not sure if people like Mr. Hare or Mr. Lockham are about any longer. Mind you, I think Mr. Lockham has a son that loves target shooting. Time takes people away.

Why am I requesting this help?

A most respected fellow CGN member of ours has asked me for documentation of the Strathcona Range incident to compare with a case that he is looking at.

Thank you.

Are you looking for the Spruce Grove range issues in Parkland County?

No. The old Strathcona Range that was created for the 1978 Commonwealth Games.

I know the late Mr. Hare coached pistol shooting, and there was a lovely lady who coached rimfire rifle at that time

If anyone in Ontario talks to Susan Natrass, please ask here about the incident. She also trained out of the Strathcona Range.

the only incident that I recall was noise not rounds infringing as the range was parallel to housing (that was across the river in Rundle)

Pretty sure you are referring to the Old Edm Fish and Game range, formerly North of St. Albert...

I believe the range he is referring to was just east of 50th Street and south of the Henday. It's an array of soccer fields now. I never shot there but it used to have trap, skeet and rimfire as well. Not sure about centerfire firearms.

It was used for the Commonwealth Games in 1978. If I had to guess I'd say it was shut down well over 20 years ago.

As to the story about people planting bullets in their houses, I never heard that story but won't surprise me.

Thank you Mr. jody.

I created a discussion of this issue on an Alberta forum several years ago. I have been banned from that forum for asking questions. Many questions.

Did something like this happen at the Parkland and St. Albert ranges?

Thanks.

Yes. The mayor has targeted the range and wants it gone. Some people said they found projectiles embedded in their homes, the lawsuit was dropped and no comment was made. I still dont think that range has reopened and they filed a lawsuit against the mayor.

Susan still participates in international trap competitions in Alberta. She was at the Canadian High Performance Trials which, this year, were held at the international trap bunker located on the Beaverhills Sporting Clays property 30 minutes east of Edmonton off hwy 16. I spoke to her myself.

What makes you think she'd have knowledge of the specific events that you're interested in?

The current bunker is operated jointly by NASA (the Northern Alberta Shooters Association, which is the same organization that operated Strathcona Range) and AISTA (the Alberta International Style Trapshooters Association of which I am one of the current directors).

I remember the incidents that you refer to, but I wasn't involved in any of these organizations back then, except as a member. Depending on what information you're looking for, I may be able to put you in touch with someone locally who may have knowledge of those events. Susan lives in the States these days and may be difficult to contact.

PM me your contact details and I'll get in touch with you directly.
