Looking to get a replacement Shilen barrel for my 10fp, since its the only company the offers drop in barrel system in few calibers for the gun.
Any Canadian Shilen dealers here or other recommendation? Or recommended good gunsmith that specializes in Savages and does a good job here in Southern Ontario?

Lothar Walther does pre-fit drop ins for Savage as well. As far as I know, Gord Whitman at Blue Mt. Sports is the Canadian distributer, but I'm not sure if he deals with the pre fits or not.

There are two ways to barrel the Savage. It can be treaded with a shoulder, just like a Remington. This makes the neatest install.

Or it can be threaded to use the Savage nut. The advantage of this method is that you can have more than one barrel, and so long as you don't over-torque the nut, you can change barrels (calibers) yourself. I have done this, using a fired case as a set up gauge.

Any gunsmith can make you barrels that will re-install using a fired case to set the headspace.

My suggestion would be to use some anti-seize on the threads. My experience is that the nut becomes very tight over time and difficult to remove, even with the factory wrench, which engages four of the nut surfaces.

Pac Nor and Shilen will export. working with a Pac Nor that shows lots of potential. Have a Shilen which also shoots well but was 'smithed to be prefit by Guntech. Hope to try a factory direct Shilen in due course.

Lothar Walter, ERShaw, Sharp Shooters Supply, Montana Rifleman, Brownells - Shilen, E. Arthur Brown, MidwayUSA and a few others all can offer prefit Savage barrels. Not sure what their export policies are.

If looking for a top of the line barrel, all the Cdn makers can make you something.
