I looking for a new custom barrel and would like to get comments from anyone who has bought a Shilens prefit Remington 700 from Brownells. Had a quick look and cant find any threads on here about them.

I know they require finish reaming.
What is the accuracy like?
Are they made from the same stock, process as all other Shilens?

Thanks

I can't comment on the barrel in question but I thought I'd point out, just in case you weren't aware, that Brownell's will charge you a $200 USD export/import license fee on top of the cost of the barrel.

Up to you if you think it's worth it or not.

If you're looking for a Shilen pre-fit you might want to check with Jerry at Mystic Precision. I've gotten a couple from him over the years.

I've bought a fair number of barrels from Jerry over the years. He will look after you very well. Probably has a few in stock too. He's a top notch sponsor of this site. Give him a call.

Is an import fee added to it because its a barrel?

Corey

Unfortunately the US went paranoid and there are hundreds of now controlled items that are required to go though an exporter in the US and an importer in Canada. The fee to be a US Exporter is quite high, so they charge accordingly. What once was a simple 'put it in the mail' or to 'simple cross the border' with it is long gone.

I was just inquiring because i was just in contact with Brownells International import person and was informed that with parts you can now order up to 500 us without issue. My order is a bunch of little items, no barrels but it was over the original 100 max and she said no issues up 500 now.

Guess i will see when the stuff gets to the border.

Unfortunately the import stuff has gone waco. About 25 years ago I bought a Shilen Pre fit AND reamer from Brownells. Great quality items and great service from them. Items were just shipped in the mail, no problems. Fast forward to last year when all I wanted to get was a "CLAMP on" front sight base (Not even the sight, just a base) and it couldn't be shipped.
