Has anyone ever had to shim a scope on a ruger, I just mounted a new 6500 on my hawkeye 300 win mag, havent shot it yet (tomorrow) with it bore sighted I only have 14.5 min left to go up. That is ok for hunting but I want to shoot 1000 yards with this gun and that wouln't do, I need 32 min of adj. so my question is what is the best way to shim?

under the ring between the reciver and the ring, or under the scope between the scope and the ring, or maby a little of both. or maby something I havent even thought about?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Jamie

Under the rear base between the top of the action and the bottom of the base. Never put a slim between the rings and the scope, you will be reducing the inside diameter of the ring and will end up denting the scope tube. You should also lap the bottom rings (60%) once you shim the base. You can cut up a pop can to use for shim. Each slim will give you about 5 MOA.

Ya there are some places where it would be getting close to all the way across, but there is lots of places to try it out.
You cant put the rings in the wrong location there is a tab on the bottom that sets in a slot on the reciver and holds the ring from going foward and back.

Maynard, that is what I thought I should do but wanted someone to back me up, I didnt know that a pop can would give 5 moa though, good to know.
Thank you for taking the time to give me help, maby some day I can do the same

Thanks shooter910
