Just bought a firearm, a private deal. The fellow has a fair bunch of ammo that will all fit in a box 10"x10"x10" and will weight 16lbs. Canpar quoted $126 from Ontario to the Yukon, seems excessive......what other cheaper options can be recommended? Thanks for your input

I don't know whats the costs are like but one of favorite site sponsors ships ammo to me through both Canpar (which you've spoke to) and UPS. Considering this site sponsor offers Free shipping maybe UPS is cost effective. give them a call.

Last time I checked UPS they said I need to register an account, pay a (I believe) one-time dangerous goods fee on the account of a couple thousand dollars, and then pay a hundred or so dollars per shipment that contains dangerous goods.
This was a few years ago. Maybe it changed, maybe the guy in the store when I asked was an idiot, I don't know.

$126 for a 10" cube box of ammo (heavy) from Ontario to the Yukon sounds about right to me. Shipping heavy items where few people live is always very expensive.
A 10" cube of nothing but ammo would be very heavy!

Get the seller to take the package to an actual Canpar depot and get a quote there. I just shipped a box of ammo with almost the same dimensions (9x9x9 @ 17lbs) from AB to BC, online quoted me $43 but when i took it to the depot they quoted me $25.

I shipped a bunch to Ottawa for the Eastern Championships through Purolator. The parcel weight is limited to 30kg.

You must put on a limited quantity sticker (or make your own).. no other markings for contents. Address of course.

No haz mat, no fuss, no muss. I paid $125 or so from BC to ON.

The 1.4S orange triangle makes a difference. I had a shipment of ammo refused by Purolator, by both the counter staff and the supervisor, so I went and did my homework. Called their head office. Called the Federal government. ( Can't remember the department, maybe Transport Canada? ) Was given good advice. Came back a couple days later with the same pkg, with the 1.4S designation, sporting a nice home made orange diamond sticker, and NO problem. No dangerous goods designation, just the usual (fairly high) shipping fee.
