I apologize if this is the wrong form or has been addressed somewhere else, I looked but couldn't find anything. Is there a legal way for a private individual to ship ammunition to another private individual? Fed Ex said no, I can't seem to get ahold of anyone in UPS, Purolator said yes, but I have to open a business account first and jump through several hoops, need a business number which I don't have, GST number, etc. Is there a simple answer, either way? Thanks in advance.

I wondered about that, I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone at UPS that will confirm, they keep saying "maybe, but you'll have to talk to our 'Dangerous goods' people", but then then I can't get through to dangerous goods, just a machine,(I've left two messages) no response. Purolator also said they would ship if I had an account, but that's getting complicated because to open an account I need a business number, GST number, etc. I feel like a real dummy now because I offered ammo with a firearms sale and now can't make good on my offer. My bad, should have checked this all out before posting the add, good way to get a bad trader rating, but I never dreamt that it was that big a deal. Lesson learned.

Technically, you need a business account with CP now to send a firearm. The real question is, how hard is it to open one online for UPS? You don't need a biz or HST # in NS if you make (iirc) 25k or less from it.

Honest mistake, I'm sure the buyer will understand. Just be appropriately generous in the renegotiation.

I shipped 300 pounds of ammo in October of 2018 with UPS in Surrey to Ottawa with no business account. I think they have now stopped that though as my friendd tried during his recent move and had no luck.

talked to a potential buyer for a firearm and ammo I have for sale. I asked how he would like me to ship?

He said he ships ammo constantly through Canada Post, and has never stopped. I'm like "NOPE"

I couldn't believe it when he said that! Needless to say, no deal was made.

Thanks for the responses guys, I've contacted UPS, Fed Ex and Purolator, doesn't sound like it's easy/possible to do (legally). The most frustrating part was just trying to get a straight response from someone with the couriers, nobody really seems to know for sure and then they give you a number that puts you through to an automated answering system, which tells you nothing!

Until he gets caught and charged with prison time. He best read the canada post act

Every person who contravenes any provision of this Act or the regulations or who commits an offence under any of sections 48 to 59

(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or

(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.'
