I am going to South Africa next month and was wondering if anyone had any
experience shipping back trophys. It will be horns and hides no full mounts
any advice would be appreciated to keep the cost down.

thanks Dave

Who's doing your taxidermy dave? I just got back and mine is getting done by Red Dune Taxidermy in Jacobsdal. The guys used them last time they went (last year) an dit cost about $1300 per person and they had a whack of stuff. For flat skins and european mounts you'll be looking at much less. Give them a shout and inquire.

I sent my trophies to Animal Artistry in the US - Google their web site - it's very interesting. When the taxidermy work is completed I will be importing manufactured items not parts of wildlife, so I have avoided lots of hoops. Dogleg sent his to a big shop in RSA - but he can tell his story.

The outfitter has a taxidermist that he recommends. I cant remember the name of the company. How long will Red Dune take to get the trophys
shipped to you. I have heard a few horror stories of excessive shipping charges, poor quality, wrong animals etc and would like to avoid this.

Hey Dave

I am from South Africa, and it all depends which part of South Africa you are coming to hunt.

It is better to get a company to do it for you, because as soon as anybody realises you're a foreigner, their mind just sees money and tend to go crazy with prices(OOOOOOooops, did I just say that??)

You could visit - http://www.lost.co.za/browse.cgi?action=dispcat&id=165

I had my taxidermy done over there. 11 animals mostly shoulder mounts. Life sized bushbuck, half mount gemsbuck. Crate was 213kgs and shipping was $3200 plus you have to pay GST on taxidermy value when you clear customs.
