To clarify - as per the Post Mistress at local Post Office - someone receiving a parcel CAN NOT get insurance coverage for it - Canada Post Insurance is only available to the person that SENT the parcel, not the person that receives it. In Canada, generally, you can not buy insurance on someone else's stuff - in Canada Post's view, the contents of the parcel belongs to the SENDER, (does not matter who paid whom or who did not pay), until they deliver it to the Addressee. Of course, upon "delivery" the insurance coverage stops. As per Canada Post, what is in the parcel no longer belongs to the SENDER, once the Addressee accepts it. Since that discussion with the Post Mistress - which started with me wanted to get insurance on something being sent to me - and she said that was NOT POSSIBLE through their system, I have not paid for Insurance since then - since what I pay to a SENDER is for the premium of the Insurance coverage, which covers THEIR GOODS - not my goods. When I sell something with shipping included, the parcel receiver will never know if I did insure that parcel or not - the Receiver NEVER receives anything from Canada Post - whether the thing is insured or not.
