Whats the deal here?

Can they be shipped through Canadapost? What do we have to tell them? How much roughly does it cost above regular shipping?

Looking at selling some powders/primers, any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks

That would be a huge, big, to the point....NO. They are very specfic about not shipping ammunition, explosives, etc....I know, I know....smokeless powder is a propellant, not an explosive. In this case, we won't be splitting any hairs. I've asked a few times at a couple of different postal outlets just for the hell of it when I was in on other business. They have a perfect track record on this (probably the only perfect record they have) and it was a resounding NO.

Some couriers will ship, I'm thinking DHL is one of them, i think that's what Higginson used last time i ordered powder from them.

blacksmithden, I hate to burst your bubble but smokeless propellant (1.3C class) is an explosive. Try reading the Transport of Dangerous Goods Act! Slightly boring but very informative.

How can it be a propellant and an explosive?

They just lumped it in with explosives for no real reason.

Smokeless propellents only exhibit "explosive" characteristics if strongly confined. [any normal shipping containers are designed to rupture easily] Otherwise it is a progressive burning propellant that deflagrates [burns] rapidly. Regards, Eagleye.

How about shipping Black Powder??

There is a guy in Winnipeg that would like the 15 lb I am try to get rid of and I am not sure how to go about getting to him.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thnx

propellent should not explode, but it can. A high velocity into a can of pistol powder, for example, can make it detonate.

I recall a new design for a powder hopper for a shotshell loading machine (about 20 pounds of powder). It had to be given the standard test, which involves igniting the powder at the place where it drops out.

The powder detonated. Steel bolts went a mile. The engineers watching were only 50 yards away. To this day they count themselves to be lucky to be alive.

One of those engineers went on to run the Explosives Branch (federal). Don't try to tell him propellant is not an explosive.

I don't give a damn what you call it, or what the transport dangerous goods act says. The point of the thread was to find out if powder and primers can be shipped via Canada Post. The answer is no. The end.

ON second thought, I will also check out Canpar, there is one relatively close to my home as well.

Thanks for the info again guys
