Shipping rimfire ammo from the states...

I'm thinking about 500 rounds of 17hmr (possibly from Cabella's, I'm still looking). Is there anything I should know? I just want to be sure before I do anything, I don't want it hitting the boarder and being indefinately held there. Do I need to fax a copy of my PAL in or something?

Cabelas won't sell to you.
You will need to find a supplier who is a licenced exporter.
Obtain a Cdn. import permit. Send it to the exporter. They will apply for a US export permit. Once they receive it (about 8 weeks), they will ship it. They will also charge for this service.
MUCH easier to just buy in Canada.

Can you do it? Yes.
Can you do it legally? No.
Will you get caught? Probably not.
What could happen if you do get caught? Denied any future entries to the US.

The problem isn't importing to Canada. We are permitted 5,000 rounds per entry to Canada. The problem is exporting from the US requires a State Dept or Commerce Dept Export Permit. Even 1 round of .22

www.russellsports.com has .17 HMR in their catalog made by CCI, FEDERAL($119.99/500) AND HORNADY ($124.99/500) all plus shipping and they will ship to you in Canada but probably not at the prices in the U.S. catalogs ( what is the shipping and brokerage fees to Canada). But you will get it without risk of losing it or any other problems. Probably many of the dealers at the top of the page here , have it in stock, ask for a quote.

With the regs as they are on the US side, it's just not worth it. Buy it here and support the local dealers.

ok, will do. I should have done more research on bulk in Canada before I considered buying from the States.
