I am a long time collector of American Civil War weapons. My wife has informed me that I have decided to downsize my collection. There doesn't appear to be a market in Canada. Although I have been receiving ACW weapons from the US I have not shipped south. Can anyone provide information on the process of shipping to a dealer, auction house or buyer in the US (taxes, laws, costs, hassles). Even better, if you know of a dealer in Canada that has an interest in Civil War antiques let me know. Thanks in advance for any help.

I cannot forsee any difficulties with shipping to the United states, I have sent a few pieces to the states over the past 3 years never a issue, just pack the item very well so it resists damage from negligent and/or incompitent postal employees on both sides of the border.

I have been reenacting the rev war and French and Indian wars for a few years and this season I'm starting Civil war skirmishing,

If you need to sell some stuff I could give your contact info to a couple guys that might buy a few if not all your pieces....worth a try maybe??

Aside from that --post some pieces on the EE:pirate:

Cheers!

Tell your wife the exchange rates right now mean you'll be selling at a disadvantage. You probably bought with .75 or .80 cent dollars, and will now sell at .95 dollars.

I don't see any problem sending them to the USA. Put them on eBay or some auction. I've sent antique firearms to the USA on several different occasions with no problems. Just inclose a letter for US customs giving some evidence that the firearm was made before 1898.

There is a market for civil war guns in Canada.I have bought 12 in 4 years although a majority of them from the states.
The problem with many Canadian sellers is they are asking twice what you can buy them for from the states. If the prices are realistic and the items have not been messed with they will sell.
I have noticed that in the states antique firearms are selling for about 2/3rds what they were selling for before the economic crunch.Just check out the prices realised from Rock Island Auctions last event. There is a big difference from 1 -2 years ago.
Winchesters area different thing. They will always command a better price in the States.Graham

Save the hassle of exporting and shipping to the States, I am in a position to purchase large collections and have been a collector of Civil War firearms for a number of years. I don't do a lot of bussisness in the US as the maket is just as good here in Canada. I like to see the guns stay in Canada and Canadian Collectors like to buy in Canada vrs the US. I have PM you but no response, if you are serious contact me and we can arrange a confidental transaction.

DEALERS???....only if you want 40% of their value. That goes for selling collections to anyone. You would be further ahead to sell individually to USA or Canadian customers. No problem shipping any antique to USA.
