Hurray ! Hurray! It’s May and outdoor shooting starts today!
The ORA is presenting at least 5 Vintage* Shoots this year. may 17, June 21, July 5, Aug 2 and Aug 16.
*It used to be that we only shot “Vintage" Rifles. This shoot has evolved into a “Bring What You Want to Shoot” shoot. The only “Vintage” element these days is me…
SKS, 858, Lee Enfield, Mauser, K31, Mosin, M14, Garand, AR-15 - all work well. We even have lots of prizes (wine).
All shooting this year will be at the DND Winona range (near Hamilton, beside the QEW). Non ORA members are welcome. Bring a spouse, friend or junior. Share the fun. Any rifle(s) you want to shoot at 100, 200 & 300 yards. 40 rounds per range.
We shoot at 100, 200 and 300 yards. The 100 yard is shot standing. Each distance starts off with 5 minutes of zeroing. The 100 zeroing can be done prone, if you prefer. If your spouse, friend or junior is a newbie, they are welcome to shoot the 100 prone, to make it easier. Targets are always the military fig 11.
200 and 300 we shoot prone, with our rifle resting on something. At each distance the shoot format is the same:
5 minutes zeroing. The target will be put up with a red spotter in the bullet hole so you can see where you are hitting. Then you shoot 10 shots in a string, within 10 minutes. The target will then be pulled down scored and put up with 10 spotters (you hope) to show where your group went.
Then you shoot the Snap shoot. The target will pop up 10 times, with 3 second exposures. You fire one shot each time. If your rifle only holds 5 shots, or is a single shot, no problem. You have time to load a fresh round between exposures. Then the target will be scored and put up with 10 spotters to show where your group went.
Then you shoot the Mover. The target will walk about 20 feet, left or right and you fire one shot at each exposure. You get a practice shot in each direction so you can get a feel for how much lead you need. (none at 100 – about a foot at 300). Hint: Try the ambush technique. Since the target has to walk by your lane, aim at the dirt and wait for the target. Shoot as it passes by.
Rifles. What ever you want. This would be a great program to shoot your hunting rifle. You need 120 rounds of ammo. You could shoot your deer/moose rifle at 100 and your varmint or milsurp or AR-15 at 200 and 300.
If you want more info, pm me your name and email address, and I will add you to the mailing list.
