A real eye patch, that would completely block the non-aiming eye, is not recommended if you're going to shoot for any length of time. The difference in light levels entering the eyes is tiring -- one eye is saying it's dark and to open the iris up and the other is saying it's light and to close it down. This is why proper shooting shields block/blur the vision without restricting light levels very much. And the non-stick Magic Tape (or regular Magic Tape if you're okay with leaving it in place) does indeed work very well in place of dedicated shooting glasses like the Vargas. It is nice that the shield flips up out of the way when you're not shooting, though.
