Any issues shootin 22lr shells in a 22lr revolver?

Its a Ruger 3screw convertible.
Not concerned with target grade accuracy.
I believe the 22mag throats are slightly bigger diameter but the bullet eventualy goes down the same barrel.
Is 22mag like 38spl vs 35z in that the chamber is the same aside from length?
 
If you shoot .22LR in a .22Magnum firearm, it is very likely that you will experience ruptured cases. The .22Mag. chamber is larger in diameter than the .22LR's and the case will expand badly.
 
Also the diameter of the .22 projectile is .223 whereas the .22mag is .224. Twist rate in the .22 is slower than the .22mag so with those factors you will find it quite difficult to get on paper at 25 meter.
 
Does it have 2 separate cylinders (whatever you call the magazine on a revolver?)
Some companies have models that come with caliber specific cylinders for 22LR and 22MAG respectively.
As others have said, nope can't fire a 22LR in a 22MAG safely if at all.

If it's a convertible like you say it should have 2 cylinders . One 22 LR & one 22 Mag .
So yes you can shoot 22 LR in the 22 LR cylinder & 22 Mag in the 22 Mag cylinder . .
Do not shoot 22 LR in the 22 Mag cylinder .
It's really not a hard concept to grasp when you think about it :rolleyes:

I "grasp the concept".
I will obviously use the appropriate cylinder...

My query was IF there was a opportunity/necessity to shoot 22lr out of the 22mag cylinder what were the issues.
I do remember reading that 22mag had a slightly bigger diameter bullet....was looking to confirm the other aspects of 22mag vs 22lr cartridges.

I wonder does Ruger use a different barrel diamter on their convertibles or do they use a 223 or 224 bore?
 
You can shoot 22LR in a 22Mag chamber. It will fire. You might even hit something (though not likely). The case might split (extremely likely). It might be difficult to eject. You probably won't die.

If you were somehow stranded in the wilderness with a box each of 22LR and 22 mag ammo, but for some reason could only choose one cylinder to take, you would take the 22 mag cylinder so you could shoot both if you absolutely had to. Shoot the 22 mags first, as powder/carbon/fouling buildup in the front of the chamber may prevent you from chambering a 22 magnum round without thorough cleaning, or it COULD chamber and fire at drastically increased pressures and injure yourself or the firearm. The same thing happens if you shoot a lot of 38 special in a 357 mag revolver.
 
Using the appropriate cartridge in the correct cylinder . Ruger Single Six revolvers can be very accurate. Like most rimfire rifles they can be finicky regarding the brand and type on ammo they shoot best. Since the early 60's Ruger SS revolver barely have all been .224 in dia. I dobut they would have continued to sell q100 of thousands if they didn't function and shoot accurately enough for casual target shooting and field work.
