Hi all,

I am seeking advice on a shooting chronograph so that I can make load development go a little more efficiently.

Any recommendations on what you may have (or not have) had success with in the past would be most appreciated.

I am currently leaning toward the SHOOTING CHRONY F1 MASTER and see one on EBay for just about $120 shipped (plus duties I would guess?)

I also see that Omineca Sports in Vanderhoof has them for about $160, not sure if they have free shipping or not but it will obviously have taxes applied to it as well.

What are your thoughts on chronographs? Do these seem like typical pricing?

Cheers and thanks for any advice you can offer, Bob

I have the shooting chrony you mentioned since six years...
never had aproblem...
$120.00 shipped seems to be a fair price.

Oh

I thought you meant actually shooting a chronograph

I did that once. F--king thing pissed me off. Who knew it was possible to get 4000 fps with 225 Noslers out of a .35 Whelen - consistently and on different days!!!!!

A couple of times I had the cross-hairs in it but held back.

Then Mr Freud stepped in. I'm shooting a .30-06 that hadn't been totally sighted in. At the shot and during recoil I glimpsed the legs of the tripod going whups. I really had no intention of shooting it. I guess the sub-conscious is a powerful thing.

I hit the thing in the display and couldn't quit smiling. Tossed it in the garbage can at the club and went and bought a Chrony.

LOL, I have heard there are two groups of chronograph users, those who have shot their chrony's and those who have yet to shoot their chrony's.

Which model did you buy?
Thanks for the smiles :) Bob

The Chrony gives varying results in sun light and in indoor settings. I have one... hate it. Always end up using a friend's CED chronograph. The CED with an IR kit would be my recommendation.

I have the CED II and love it. Not as quick to set up as the Shooting Chrony.
Also, it stores your string info and you can print it out when you get home. No need to buy an external printer.

Fortunately, at school I was taught to use pencil and notebook, so for me there's no need to buy a printer. Chrony F1 Master is quite a reasonable choice. I never saw my Chrony showing varying results. It happens that I interrupt a series and continue a week later - the series remains smooth.

Don't buy a Chrony from the US - they are made in Canada.
I have an old, basic Chrony. Works fine, does all I need.

The F1 master is a good one and would be all you need to do load development. I've order from fleabay and you have to becareful you'll most likely be dinged for duty + if they ship by UPS or FEDeX ground you'll be dinged for a brokerage fee. Omineca Sports are good people excellent to deal with.

I had one of the shooting chronographs.. biggest POS I ever used.. could never get it to read right, (sure it would read a .22 or pellet gun fine) .. tried indoor, outdoor, short distance, long distance..

it cost me a match (Well I got bumped to a minor PF as the REAL FPS was lower then it was telling me)

I bought one of the CED ones.. works perfectly every time.. I wouldn't touch thier crap with a 10 foot pole!.

Have used the basic model for years--always worked well--have never shot it with a bullet but have taken out the front sensor with a gas check off a 44 mag and a gas check off a .35 whelen--amazing how much damage it can do.

I bought an F1 when they were quite new on the market, compared it to a shooting acquaintances Oehler 33. Readings were always within a few FPS. Upgraded about 7 years ago to the Beta model, and I am very happy with it. Have also compared it to a couple of others, and readings are very close. It's all I need or want. Regards, Eagleye.
