Hi guys,
Recently I purchased a Shooting Chrony F1 Chronograph from Cabela's for 99.00! A real good price for an awesome Chrony! I noticed there was a headphone jack on the side, and looked it up. Its for a remote that allows you to access all the features, like call up these features:
SN-string number
LO- loweset velocity
HI-Highest velocity
AV-Average Velocity
ES-Extreme spread
SD-Standard deviation
TO-Total number of shots recorded since turned on
-10- and down, showing velecoity of the last 10 shots fired.
Well, I built my own remote. I plugged a 3 pole headphone jack I had laying around in my junk electronics bin, and played with where the connections are with a thin twin wire and alligator clips. I found that if the wire is soldered to the outside pole, and the side pole (only the center isnt used, but a 3 pole jack must be used), and I shorted the wire I could call up all these features. So I soldered the wires up to the jack, and the other end to a simple momentary contact switch, put it all in a nice small project box and BAM, I had a remote that cost me 3.99! (I had the headphone jack and momentary contact switch), I used about 10 feet of thin speaker wire. And, If you pick up a small project box it'll fit nicely in the chrony when folded up. Prefect!
I thought i'd share this, and if you google it, you can find info on it with pictures, but really its so simple its not needed.... it took me literally 20 minutes to whip this thing up, and can barely wait to take advantage of my new features!
here are a couple pics of my new remote! Also in the pic, is a box I made from an old Craftsman cordless drill plastic carrying case. I wanted to be able to keep my skyscreens assembled and keep it all in a nice protective case. I used a dremmel and a cut off wheel to modify the plastic insides to hold everything firmly, there's even a small bi-pod in there! (from spotting scope) another great DIY project!
GiNNz!
