I have almost always shot my revolvers in single action. But I have seen guys on Youtube shooting double action with what appears to be excellent accuracy.

Recently I have tried shooting double action. It teaches you to have a smooth trigger stroke. I am pulling in one motion - not stacking up until just before the release.

Today is shot some 38 revolvers (2", 3" and 4") at 10 yards.

Then we went to the steel plate range and at 15 yards I could hit the 10" gongs 4 out of 5 or 5 out of 5. I am surprised that I can get usable accuracy with double action.

PPC was dominated by double-action revolvers, single action was only allowed at the 50 yard line B27 target. Many/most 50 yard line competitors still fired double-action.
PPC is a high accuracy game all the way out to 50 yards, with the supremely talented competitors posting outstanding scores & qualifying for the title of HIGH MASTER.
At ten (10) yards, using both hands, double~action, revolver shooters should be able to blow out the X ring.

60 years ago I may have been able to do that, if I had worked at it. Tried double action a bit late, I guess. I am surprised that I could keep them all on the paper. Now I will try shrinking the group.

Check out Canadian boy Roly Miles. #1 in the world ranking PPC. Kills most xrings......at 50 yds.

I usually shot double action unless I am shooting longer ranges
I had a new to me model 14 and a fellow shot it double action,
spread was about 1” but the grips where wrong, big old target with rest
I did nowhere as good
I am happy with 2-3” da at 25

I would be ecstatic with 3" at 25 yrds. I can't do that anymore with single action.

I use to compete in IPSC with a revolver. I had the hammer spur removed off of my revolver as shooting single action will only slow you down. The method I used to shoot fast and accurately was I treated the trigger as you might a squirt pistol just squeeze it as fast as you can and get your sight alignment while you are cycling that trigger.

I shoot PPC with semi auto 1911, CZ clone and a GP100 in double action. Accuracy for me is comparable between the semis and the double action; and with the double action, I don't have to chase brass.

Once you get over learning how to smoothly pull the trigger without pulling the shot you likely won't use SA much. I rarely use it, mostly just when I'm lobbing rounds at stuff very far away.

I learned double action shooting in the 80s in PPC style shooting....I also bought a rossi 511 .22 revolver (couldnt afford a S&W .22 at the time) and put larger grips on it....that little gun taught ME how to shoot double action....cylinder after cylinder of .22 down range...

Good idea! I have lots of 22 double action revolvers I can practice with.

I have a lot of revolvers. There are different "feels" to the DA pull.

Some seem to fire as soon as the hammer starts to move.

Others seem to have a long pull I can feel.

If i want to be a good DA shot, which type of DA pull is best?

Watching for a steady sight picture as you pull through the trigger can be good practice. At one point I had a red dot on a revolver and could watch for whether that jiggled all over a 25 metre target or not as I worked on a smoother trigger pull.

Participating in PPC competition with knowledgeable folk on the line is a very good way of getting better at DA revolver.

This is useful.. Thank you.

Another thing to take notice of is only squeeze the trigger finger while maintaining a steady grip with the remaining fingers. People have a tendency to squeeze with the whole hand and this can throw off your shots.
