Seems crazy but I saw a post on ####### where a guy was selling his antique 11mm MAS revolver and said he shoots 44 russian through it. Seems like the worst idea ever, but is it possible?

The 44 Russian has a bullet diameter of about .430" the 11mm is around .450" . This really isn't a viable plan.

You need to work on the Google-fu and research the cartridges you are considering.

My old copy of Cartridges of the World (1965 Edition) speaks a little about the 11mm French Ordnance revolver and its ammunition.

It states "The 11mm French round is another one not very much different than the .44 S&W Russian. Satisfactory ammunition can probably be made by shortening and reforming .44 S&W Special brass. There really isn't an entirely satisfactory bullet for this particular cartridge." 'Factory ballistics 180 grain bullet at 695 feet per second from black powder.'

Good luck with the project.

44 Russian brass can be used with the larger heeled bullet for the 11mm but still isn't a very good fit. Shortened 44-40 has a larger base diameter and works better. Either usually needs the rim thinned.

Just dropping factory 44 Russian in isn't likely to get you very far.

44 Russian fits in my 11m73 but the rims are too thick and is too long when you add a bullet
44 colt brass fits perfectly but also needs to be trimmed.then a 44colt heeled bullet work well

^^^This! The 1873 is really a .45 ...the french back then measured their caliber land to land instead of groove to groove like we do. Groove to groove measured, the "11mm" on mine is really 11.48mm ...or .452, hence the easy conversions to Webley or ACP
