Shooting first ATA event.

Have you ever won a marathon?

You aren't going to win this shoot either. Relax, laugh and have fun.

On a more serious note, your shooting won't improve much over the next few days - but your focus certainly can. Be aware of nothing but the bird currently in the air. Pay no attention to everyone else's targets. Easier on the eyes to focus on 25 than 125. Rhythm. Your turn? Load - close - mount - pull - bang - open - unload...... Listen for the bang to your left and repeat. You should have no idea what your score is till you look at the sheet. It isn't a 300 bird shoot. It's a 1 bird shoot 300 times.

Enjoy.

I just shot my last event of the year, 300 per day for 4 days, that brings my total for the summer to 7,200 rounds. I shoot 1 oz loads for everything and don't really feel like I'm giving anything up except recoil. enjoy the experience, focus on your targets and shoot at your speed, you will meet some great people shooting trap I know I certainly have, good luck and break a bunch.
Let us know how it went

You gave up about 60 pounds of shot.

I believe you get an extra 12 shells per 100 shots if you convert 1 1/8oz to 1 oz

Sorta substantial amount of shot for the same price.

Some feller on trapshooters . Com was asking about 7/8 oz for 27 yards all I can think is yes please if you are competing against me lol.

I once won a flat of 7/8 oz shells in a shoot and tried them out on the 27 yard line for the fun (science) of it and was surprised to find that I still shot 21 or 22 or something like that. They were fast and I want to say something like 1400 fps but don't remember for sure, I do remember that they got to the target quickly though!

Fitasc shells are 1 ounce and many birds are shot at extreme distances. I believe Olympic trap loads are 24 gram and 1350 fps. It’s usually not the ammo but the operator 😂

Pointing out FITASC and Olympic trap loads is often compared to heavier ATA loads.

But all being equal how many world class Olympic trap shooters would choose to use 17 gram loads over 24 gram loads if they could?

Why do most world class skeet shooters choose 20 gauge for the 12 gauge event. If your worrying about 1/8 ounce of shot your not likely to be on the podium!! Pretty sure any Olympic shooter will easily beat a fellah using whatever load you choose.

American Skeet isn’t American trap obviously.

Not a lot of hi talent international trap shooters shoot American trap even when at one time a few years ago there was 100k added money at the grand American. Should be easy for them to take the money. But in reality it isn’t and two very different sports.

As for myself? I’ll take what advantages I can get.
