There was some very good information provided concerning shooting glasses in previous posts on our forum, but I am in the market for a new pair of glasses now and I'd very much appreciate an update. My prescription has changed (explains the misses I'm sure;)). I've pretty much settled on Ranger or Decot with a light medium target orange, some type of purple and a clear lens. One thing I have wondered about is whether there is a good Canadian supplier to deal with. I don't want to bore anyone by going over old ground, but would appreciate whatever advice any of you feel like offering. It has been many years since I had to buy a set. Thank you. Fred

The glasses are interesting Fozy. Thank you for the description. I enjoyed your review of them. But I'm not sure whether I'm going to look into them further or not. I would if I could actually go to the shop and look at them but, living where I do, I'm stuck almost entirely with ordering by phone or internet. Outfits like Decot and Randolph Ranger have a successful history of providing such services. Their glasses are also designed specifically for shooting and they have a number of features that are important. So it goes...

I have an Oakley Flak Jacket and its a nice glass. Recently I ordered a Rudy project for my wife. It's not here yet but I will let you know how it is when it's gets here.

I have seen what oakley M frames look like with a direct close range shot from a 12 ga... Need less to say they are my favorite. Currently I have Half Jacket XLJ with polarized lenses and they are awesome

For "Clay" shooting it would be hard to beat the Randolph Rangers. You might think about getting the Yellow lenses too. They are nice in lower light conditions and shooting under the lights.

Interesting point Win/64. I was thinking of the clear lenses for shooting under the lights and didn't consider yellow. They actually might be better than clear(?). In fact, I now recall that yellow was pretty good in mist and fog and for night driving back when I had a pair.

Yes Fred I find the yellow better in low light and under the lights. I don't even own a clear set.

I just paid $28 US + shipping for a set ( frames and 4 lenses) of Oakley M Frames off of Ebay. They are probably hot or fake but sure do work well for shooting. As good as my old Randolf Rangers my Decots. They have all the US paperwork....etc so if they are fake they are REALLY good fakes :)

I had lots of problems with Randolph Rangers and would avoid them, Decots have been best for me over the years, all my lenses are prescription, and I trust Decot to get it right.
I've been to there bus. in Phoenix a few times and always shoot the sh$t with Bud Decot, who has been doing glasses since 1949, and he has seen and fitted glasses for all the shooting greats.

Hey Ben. What was the problem with the Rangers? Was it with the Prescription or the Glasses themselves?

The Rangers that i had were similar looking to the Decots, i ordered them with 3 diff. colored prescription lenses. All 3 fit the frames differently, 2 lenses cracked because of this, within a short time the part that holds the lenses in busted off making the frames useless. So 3 lenses and the frames in the garbage($500 cost), back to the Decots.

Did you try and get any satisfaction from Randolph? Mine have been great. But luckily I don't need prescription lenses.

The Randolph lenses come as a plano blank, and are ground down to fit each different style of frame. If the opto guy didn't recess the notches correctly, then it puts undue stress on the lens leading to cracking.

Lots of others are probably the same with the plano plastics.

FYI skip the High definition randolph lenses. stick to vermilions, yellows and browns.

Ok guys I got the order from Rudy (rydon) for my wife. It's a nice well built glass , easy to change the lenses and fit good for my wife. We got 3 set of lenses clear , photocromic brown and the multilaser orange. Now back to the orange lenses . These are not for shooting (I have to sand it back) . I'm still trying to figure out if they have any regular orange lenses for clay shooting. All in all she like it a lot but yet to try on the range.
