What do you guys think are the best shooting glasses, and what lense tints do you like the best for clays.

Please tell me why you like what you have, and a comparison if you have had or tried others.

Thanks.

I'm sure others have different ideas but I use the oakley flak jacket. It;s not a bad glass but my wife Rudy project is much better. When is sunny I just use the black lenses other times the orange. My wife pretty much use her photocromic brown. If I understand correctly the colour is personal preference. What is working for one not necessary work for others.

I got military spec Wiley X (can get them through MarStar and other eyeglass dealers throughout Canada).

My specific selection (Saber Advanced came with 3 lenses: black, amber and vermillion.

I mostly use my vermillion lenses while trap shooting, and if it is overly sunny I will put my amber lenses in. The Dark are good as sunglasses and if I were shooting facing the sun.

They came with a zip up case, cleaning cloth and "tactical" headband to replace the arms if need be.

I think they were $90 bucks to my local dealer and I picked em up.

THIS is why I chose them.

Randolph Engineering Ranger XLW. Vermilion normally, as it makes green pop out against a green background. I use the cmt lenses for bright blue sky.

I think I have been using Decots for about 40 years. I like them and I always have good service when ordering. I have never felt the urge to change..

I use Decots as well. Colours are something that is background specific. I shoot a lot of treed backgrounds and find a purple works well for me.

Jim Close in Waterloo, ON has started working with Frank Rively from the US. Frank is a shooter and an eye Doctor. He has developed some special colours for various backgrounds.

Like Bigbubba said above. My vote goes to Decot. I went to the store in Phoenix in January 1989 and got a pair fitted. Last year I decided to get prescription lenses from them via Ebay but could not remember which model number/size my frames were. I called them up and 5 minutes later they had pulled my file and could tell me exactly which frames I had. I had no contact with them for the whole 21 years and they still had me on file!
Really good prices if you order from them directly and their customer service, in my experience, is excellent.
They also have every conceivable colour of lenses and can make suggestions based on your conditions.

Decots for me too. For at least 20 years. :)
Second choice would be Randolph Rangers.

"Medium Target Orange" most of the time, with "Royal Buds"
on very bright days. "Blue Ice" whenever I encounter fluorescent green targets at
yhe odd Sporting Clays set-up.

After a lot of years with my Randolph Rangers, I've switched to a set of Pilla Pumas. So far so good with them.

I don't put too much faith into the different colours. There is no one magic tint that is going to save your game. Find something that is comfortable for you that you like (they are your eyes, not somebody else's). It might be helpful for you to have something darker for when it is really bright, and something lighter when lighting conditions are poorer. It could also be the case that the same colour will work for you all the time. (I wear my dark glasses 95% of the time).

i use a set of oakley military glasses i got them as a girft from a oakley rep . who told me they can take a shotgun shell at 25 feet and wont shatter the lens , ( challenge excepted) try it and he was right the lens didnt break or even crack the frame did and i went and got another pair , im hoping some day they will come out with a red lense tint for now they have black, yellow and clear ( i will look to see if i still have the video of the test at home)

As a bad eye due to impact and medication, Pilla do work for me!
Henry:rolleyes:

Do you find the tints that Pilla have make the birds show up that much better, or is it another feature of the glasses you like?

I was tempted to save up and try them, but that's a lot of money to drop without ever trying a pair on.

Post 4 Optics. If word gets out, Randolph and Decot will be out of buisness. Great Optics and lots of colour choices.

Yup, X2 on Post 4 optics like Win/64 says. I have lenses for bright and dull conditions like BMcrae says. Works for me and haven't needed anything else. Fred
