I've hunted in the mountains when there was significant smoke from large forest fires, glassing for Stone sheep was really difficult. Anybody shot matches out to 800yds in such conditions. Lots(++++++) of smoke here in B.C. now. Wondering what to expect when I go out to shoot this coming week end.

We shot in the smoke out to 900m last weekend at Homestead. Of significant interest was that with so little wind, a lot of 'possibles' (8 of 8 F-O shooters shot a 75 at 500m, 3 of them dropped a point at 600m) and 7 shooters established range records shooting with optics. The iron sight shooters had difficulty with seeing the target accurately and struggled. In short, while the targets may be difficult to see, there is zero wind, and optics will do fine.

I don't find any optical distortion caused by the smoke... just makes the target harder to see.

it is the coughing that gets me... so I am not going out until things clear up.

It's so fooking hot, dry & smokey here on the Island that I put my powder & primers into sealed storage bins in me basement till things cool off. I still get my dog out for the daily 5k trail walk in the mornings though. This geoengineering weather war insanity must end, or we will & a lot quicker than most folks realize.
