shooting mat/bag

Tried searching for "shooting mats" nothing specific showed up.

I'm leaning towards the condo.

Through my searches I have seen a few suggest not to get a mat/bag combo
would a cabelas shooting mat for 80$ and a separate soft case make more sense

The only problems the the combo shooting mat/gun case is that you have to empty everything out of the pockets to get a flat shooting surface. And if you are caught shooting in a down pour you now have a wet bag to put your rifle into.

I have an eberlestock shooting mat and an eberlestock gunslinger pack. Great combo, keeps my gear separate and I can use the pack for other things like camping. Tons of space. No worries about getting the interior of my bag dirty like with a drag bag. Expensive but if you plan on hiking your rifle and gear into the bush somewhere you're going to need a pack. If you're just taking it to a range you don't need to worry about it.

I'm with bolbmw on this. I have rifle case, as well as range bag and a shooting mat (3 things to carru). To be completely honest, I say research the crap out of this and figure out what you want to do. Then figure out how comfortable you are carrying tons of gear. If you can drive to your final firing position or it is at a range, there isn't really that much of an issue. If you are dragging through the bush, prepare to feel like your rifle's ##### and wonder why after all that money the thing isn't freakin remote control or have legs of its own.

Also prepare to have a large collection of bags... Tactical packs, they are like purses for men, you can never have too many and for the money you always can afford the next one.

thank you both for the links. really like the eberlestock gunslinger pack it makes the most sense. maybe not now but in the future.
did you get the padded or non padded mat and would you chose that again?
do you find you wish you had a bi-pod stop or content with out it?
