Shooting mat?

+1 For Centre the group. I have the tri-fold and the thinner roll up mat. I like them both, and the quality is excellent.

Small question. Having a rifle on a mat hinders my accuracy. There is so much play because the rifle rear bag/monopod is sitting on foam and every little flicker of variation in cheek pressure or hand pressure on the grip result in mucho movement.

I hear centre the group mats are coming with cutouts in the front. What do you guys do for. The rear bag?

A good mat will have some padding but not so much that it becomes a bed. Normally 1/2-3/4" thick with a heavy cover that will be water resistant and easy to clean, the front will have a harder cover that won't flex so much and gives solid support to the rear bag. Options like flaps, pockets, peg holes can be nice but not really make a mat best in the world, rollup or fold up personal preference. Most of what has been listed will be a good choice, if you can get out to a range where people are using these mats andlook them over it would be the best way to make a decision.

Late answer but I like my eberlestock magic carpet, it compresses pretty tight if you're careful about how you roll it up. I have the padded one and it's perfectly comfortable but don't be mislead - the padding is minimal.. My only complaint with it is that if it's raining, it's so waterproof that water just pools on top of it but thats probably going to happen with any mat. Here on the west coast that happens a lot so I've gotten used to it. I've been tempted to put some drain holes in it.

Dries quick, cleans easy. Works for me.
