Just looking for info on shooting mats/drag bags. Looked at tons online but nothing really stands out to me. Also since there is a lack of any local to actual look at. Not really what to look for in a mat.

Thank for the help guys.

The problem with a combination drag bag /shooting mat is if your mat gets wet, you now have a wet bag to put your rifle into. That and you have to take all the crap out of the pockets to get a flat surface to lay on.

Check out TAB gear. It has some padding for the elbows, folds up super compact so it takes up no space in your ruck, very durable material.

I use separate mat and not the bag. If I really thought I was gonna have to belly crawl into a shooting spot, then maybe I'd use the bag.

As for a mat, watch for Cabelas to put theirs on sale. They are a nice set up. If your using a brake and facing into the wind, move back on the mat to keep your muzzle just about even with the front edge and it will lessen the dust in your face when firing.

i use the Cabellas brand...insulates well during the winter months, its comfortable on hard surfaces, wide, and well padded. Its tough as well, i shot it off concrete, snow, wet grass and it has not shown any signs of damage. Its waterproof as well. On windy days, it gives you the option of staking it in on all the corners. The drawbacks are that is its dark color, It worms up quite a bit and its pretty heavy, however, its much wider and more padded than any other shooting pad i have seen.

I just got a shooting mat from center the group dot com. It's a very nice mat. I haven't tried it out yet but it seems good on the floor in the living room.
It's nicely made here in Canada.
