I use a mat from MEC, which is closed cell foam. I'm fairly new to the Precision Rifle game, but it works well for me. It rolls tightly, and cost somewhere in the neighbourhood of 30 dollars.
 
I needed a mat and decided to make one. I found a length of canvas, some closed cell sleeping mat and lengths of 1" strap. The secret was to plan the folds. Mine has four folds.
 
ceterthegroup also has other mats that he does not have up on his webpage.
He has an "F class" mat that is wider, and a "Fat Mat" that is thicker and I believe is a four fold.
 
I like to use a camp Thermarest under most of my body but you will be unable to put your bi pod or rear bag on it due to movement form the air in the mat.
Keeps you off the ground,dry and comfy. You just need a small mat for your elbows if need be.

I got a Blackhawk mat for Christmas. I haven't had it out yet, but I am concerned already as it doesn't lay flat. A folder would have been better as the roll-ups want to stay that way
 
CTG also has a rollup mat with "wings" at the feet for tactical style shooting, but the rubber elbow pad they put on them will rip your elbows shreds shooting our discipline, unless you wear some kind of elbow pad.

Thats fine...they are SNIPERS and should be given any advantage and comfort they need as they job could mean the the difference of other member(s) of the CF living or dying. What are you doing...shooting paper?

For the past two months, I've been back shooting paper - yes.

What I'm hearing from you, is that something which works for professional precision shooters, just isn't appropriate for the rest of us... because we all need to be more manly. Do I have that about right?
