Because yesterday was such a gong gong at work, a buddy and I decided to bug out early and go shoot stuff. I brought my 858 along, now that the surplus ammo isn't banned at our range, and boy did it ever perform. I must have put close to 200 rounds down the pipe in a couple hours.

It's not that the gun is a precision device, it's how well it handles under semi-rapid firing. Firing as fast as I could line up the sights, about a shot every 1-2 seconds, I was able to hit 36x36 targets @ 225y 4 out 5 times. When I sat down and took my time, I pegged an 8x8 plate 5/5 times with MFS 125g soft point ammo.

I don't bother trying to make groups @ 100y with it because the sights cover up the target. I do have my 858 scoped, so I don't want to waste ammo making 8 inch groups with the irons when I know perfectly well what the rifle is capable of (3-6 inches depending on ammo). One time I got a 2.5 inch 5 shot group with S&B ammo, which I think was a fluke haha. The stuff doesn't feed properly, being brass, so I'm waiting until I fully break the rifle in before I switch off MFS and back to S&B.

Has anyone tried that new Hornady flex tip ammo? I'm curious to see how that stuff shoots.
