shooting my Webley WG?

Hi all,

While I have my PAL for work, I don't actually own any firearms. I got interested in the antiques, however, and am expecting my first in the mail some time soon, a Webley WG 1889 from a GunNutz member...

I'd like to shoot it, and I know reloading is the way to go..but since I have to learn how to do that, I figure I'll buy a box or two of ammunition before I get started seriously. I don't think I can wait a few months to shoot it!

Would the Hornady and Fiocchi .455 cartridges both be safe in my WG (assuming its mechanically fairly good)? I've read here that the Hornady is a bit of a lighter load. Anyone know of sources, by mail or otherwise? I'm located in Hamilton, ON.

The 1889 WG has a church steeple style cylinder and is very strong when in good condition.
I shot Fiocchi in both of mine.
Tho some people will freak out and tell you your gona kill all the bystanders and there donkeys with Shrapnel if ya try it

There a strong well built gun.
The hornady 455 is loaded lighter than the fiocchi so if you can get that do it tho.
Fiocchi is like 800 FPS so is a tad hot but the British antique guns eat it up.
Just till ya start reloading should be fine.


With all the webley MKIs and MKIIs sold on CGN and i know alot of guys are shooting Fiocchi or Hornady in them cause its easyer to get than reloading.
Not once have i heard or seen a Antique gun damaged on CGN by fiocchi or hornady 455 factory ammo.

Toward the end of prod. (not sure when) a more standard cylinder was used. take some 45 schofield.Thin the rim .010" stick in 4.5 grains of 700X and a RCBS molded pre lead RNHB and prepare for one ragged hole at 800fps. Looks like its as Dingus said.still in one piece

I would dearly love to own one myself. The first pistol I ever fired was a Webley .455 The only thing is the ammunition, it is so hard to come by. If there are any converted to 45acp I would consider buying one just to use for a fun gun, and the nostalgia.
