Hey hows it going? I am new to shooting and to this forum so Hi first off.

I have a few guns that were given to me by an uncle. Just some old .22 and shotguns as well I just got a new mossberg 500. Anyways my question is where can I go to target shoot and have some fun with these besides the range. I am in Vancouver so preferably somewhere within a days trip of there.

I'm not sure but I think if you are shooting in the bush you need a hunting licence to be legal. If you have that and your PAL then you're good to go. Where? Well I used to go out to the gravel bars on the Fraser by Deroche to shoot clay pidgeons thrown out over the water but you might have to have steel shot now, again I'm not sure. We also used to go up the Chehalis River area and find a dead end road with a decent backstop to shoot rifles. Chilliwack Lake area is also good. Just make sure you have a SAFE backstop and DON"T leave a mess including spent cases or used targets etc. BTW welcome to the site.

Hunting licence is NOT required, Pal is required
there are some restrictions as far as no shooting areas go, but generally if your off the highways a ways, and on crown land, or private land with the owners permission your good to go. just make sure your out of any the municipal land as many have no shooting bylaws.

where in vancouver are you?
If you want some spots to go shoot south of squamish/north of West van send me a pm

Generally, you should be alright without a hunting license in the bush. However, if you are decked out in camo, with a couple of skinning knives, ropes, game bags, and directions to a butcher in your pack you might have some explaining to do.

Stave is a gong show, Sylvester Road is a mess. Why not just go to a range?

wow thanks for all the input.... I do have the pal but not the hunting licence.

And why not the range. Well I would like to go out camping or even hiking in the bush or something like that and bring my guns. I seen some spot where people obviously had been shooting out by harrison lake I think it was when we were camping one time.

Ranges are good for sighting in, and working up handloads, etc.
But once I have that sorted out, I prefer to be out in the woods, a long way up a logging road.

If you are in Vancouver, you can go east to Mission and beyond, or up the Sea to Sky hwy towards Squamish and beyond.
As I am already east of Van, I go to Mission and farther.

I always just find my own places to shoot, usually further out than most want to go. The mess people leave...broken glass, shotgun shells and shot up garbage is disgusting. I don't want someone seeing me there or leaving the spot and thinking I'm one those that make the mess.
No-one would be able to find where I shoot as no sign is ever left behind.
