Hey folks,

My friends and I are going up to a wonderful little area called Buckhorn, Ontario to do alittle camping and fishing.

We plan on staying on a 50 acre lot that my friends parents own.

Now for the question...

The area seems rather deserted and I was planning on taking up my SKS and remington model 7 to shoot at some targets at. Should I be afraid that the OPP might come by and take my toys away? Is there any way to find out if shooting firearms within the town limits on private property is illigal?

Thanks folks.

The Buckhorn area is a very long way from being deserted. It's smack dab in the middle of the Kawartha's cottage country. Lots of farms too.
"...within the town limits on private property is illegal?..." Discharging firearms within town limits is illegal just about everywhere. Who owns the land doesn't matter. However, search the township's web site and look for the local by-laws.

If the town has an anti-discharge bylaw, you're SOL, follow Sunray's direction and verify before going shooting.

I shoot on my Haliburton property regularly. If you're outside the actual town limits, you are generally OK, but as suggested, you should look up the bylaws. I usually let the neighbors know I'm going to be shooting and they do the same. I'm lucky all my neighbors are shooters and hunters.
