I have a SIG P226rx with the built in Romeo 1 red dot. Never having shot a red dot before I have a (probably dumb) question. Is the red dot simply to accentuate the front sight? I can center the red dot on the target but it has to be just above the front sight to get accuracy. If I center it on the target but it is not directly above the front sight, shots are all over the place.

Just to clarify my (probably dumb) question, one can't just put the red dot on target and expect the shot to go there?

I am just starting to put red dot sights on some pistols I have to hopefully
compensate for aging eyesight.
The dot should be adjustable for windage & elevation just like a scope.
So my suggestion would be to adjust the red dot to where you like it and where it
works best for you.

However , if the iron sights are visible then perhaps I am wrong.
I am sure some people who are much better with red dot sights will post
some answers.
