Hi everyone,

Posted a few weeks back about finding a partner/group of people to shoot sporting clays with. Main reason for this is because where I shoot (Galt), you need someone to pull the birds for you at the stations (press buttons not voice activated or manually thrown).

Is there any sporting clay courses where you can shoot alone? Either voice activated or hired trappers throwing clays? I am in the GTA, looking at Oshawa, Uxbridge, Hamilton, etc.

Thanks,

Mike

Google "clay delay" it's designed for shooting skeet and trap alone, but depending on what sort of cords your local club has set up, you might be able to use it to shoot alone. Look it up, then go have a chat with your local clubs.

Hi Mike, I believe we talked via pm before

I'm at Hamilton, skeet is button activated, trap is voice

Only problem is they have two regular use trap thet are usually full, 3 skeet that are quite busy also

The regulars seem to camp out at the trap machines I have yet to play a game because of this.

I have two gun shooting friends, one hardly goes the other just got a pistol and a shotgun, he is a lot more motivated so hopefully I can get a lot more shooting in soon.

I haven't been to the club in a month.

I may just start shooting pistol when I get one, you don't need to worry about finding people to shoot with, just grab a lane and start shooting

Hamilton will let you shoot alone. As stated, the trap is voice activated. There is a caretaker who works on site and he will assist you in setup if required. I found this club to be a great place for novice trap shooters such as myself.

I have found the same thing at Galt. Trap field is often full (at least when I go), although most people shooting are more than willing to let you join them.

I am interested in shooting sporting clays though. I have looked at the clay delay device, just not sure if my club would allow me to plug/unplug their equipment. Worth a try though, thanks for the help so far.

The OP was asking about sporting clays, not trap or skeet. At Galt, trap is voice-activated and skeet is manually activated - if you don't have someone to shoot with, one of the trap boys will pull the birds for you. As far as sporting clays at Galt goes, yeah, you need someone to shoot with to pull the birds.
To the original question, I don't know of any sporting clay courses where you can shoot alone but if you send me a PM and don't mind shooting with a sporting clays newbie I'd be happy to head out there with you sometime.

How does sporting clays work, never played it, whats the cost for a non member to play a game?

At Galt it is $25 for 50 bird and $50 for 100 birds (for a non-member). Members rates are discounted.

Sporting clays is different at every course, and is a mixture of presentations at various stations. Almost like golf (it is often referred to as golf with a shotgun). I have only shot at Galt, but the course gets changed up quite often so it keeps you on your toes.

Let me know if you're interested in going out, either here or via PM. I wouldn't mind trying out some courses other than Galt as well.

Sounds good, 50 bird would be enough, its a pricy game by the sounds of it

I think you will find not to may clubs have what Galt has, that club is in a league of it own and they charge accordingly lol
