Our club has moved away, (too far away for my liking) from shooting steel targets since the CFO (C) ruled on shrouding steel.
Gone are the days of reactive steel targets like plates, pepper poppers and gongs.

I would like to see how difficult/expensive it would be to reintroduce them back into our matches.

Anybody care to share info/pics on how their club has handled the shrouding rule. flumes@shaw.ca

I must have been living under a rock for a while :rolleyes: but could you tell me more? Luckily the outdoor range I go to still has steel gongs and never heard of them phasing out on steel...
 
Yeah, the shrouding issue seems to me to be based on unfounded fear of bullet spatter...
I shoot matches at a club in the US where 90% if not more of the targets are steel.
Non are shrouded.
I've never heard of or witnessed any injuries.
For example one past match was 5 stages involving rifle/pistol and shotgun. Round count was over 100 pistol/75 rifle/50 shot and several slugs. There were six cardboard targets... and they were all on one stage!
 
I don't agree with these shields , but if the CFO mandated it you have to do it .
I've seen pictures of sheilds that are nothing more than three pieces of
2x8 screwed together into a "u" and placed over the target . Seems it wouldn't take to much to get the steel back .
 
1/2"-5/8" plywood, 12"-18" wide spaced 12" from steel.

I had to build one for the spinner I have for my daughter and GF,

We have similar arrangements for around the "poppers" for IDPA.
