I went out to the range this morning to test-fire the Schultz & Larsen .22 that I got from Tradeex and check the sighting on my 1942 Mosin Nagant. I was tired of it shooting 8" high at 100 yds, so had made a new front sight pin and installed it.
Once I got it filed down to the point where I was on at 100 yds, I was happy.

A friend was out there with me. He has just gotten a Savage Model 10 BA and put a fancy Vortex Viper 6.5-20 scope on it. He was sighting it in after he and I installed the scope yesterday.

Toward the end of the day, he offered to let me shoot his Savage. I had a 6" AR500 gong hanging at 200 meters and that's what I shot at. First shot with his Savage went over top. I adjusted my hold and put the next 2 rounds on the gong about 1" apart.

I then went over to my Mosin, loaded 3 rounds of Chinese surplus ammo into it and told him "I'm getting cocky and trying for that gong with this thing"

The 2 bullet marks on the right are from his $2500 rig
The 2 on the left are from my 73 year-old, pitted -bore Russian reject. I'll admit that I did miss my first shot.

He wasn't impressed when I brought the gong back and showed him. He even said a rude thing to me. We had a good laugh about it.

I guess I'll keep the Mosin.

When I buy a Mosin, I purposely look for one that has a physically tall front post.
I want it to be hitting the dirt 20 meters in front when I aim at 100 with the rear sight at "1".
Then you just file her down slow and square. keep shooting groups until the POI is POA at 100 meters and you're sights are bang on :D

Sweet shooting by the way Sir.

Nice shooting! My Finn M91 will hit the 200 meter gong consistently with open sights. Irritates the crap out of the $3000 + black rifle guys...
