Shooting to 400m

I shoot my semi's with irons out to 400M. I'd be pretty confident about making shots on game inside 250 so long as my range estimation was good and it wasn't blowing a gale.

Sorry didn't quite my message out. What I meant was an elephant would be an appropriate sized target for shooting at 400m offhand. My two M14s and AR are actually just as accurate and DEADLY as my fudd hunting rifles.

I just took the plunge into expensive scopes and put a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x56 on my M14. That will be fine for 400 meter shooting like you describe. I can't really imagine someone seriously hunting goats at 400 meters with open sights or aimpoints. I mean, forget for a second that it's a battle rifle and just look at your game and the range. I don't know anyone who goes goat/sheep hunting with iron sights/aimpoints with their long range bolt rifles, that's for sure...

well what i ended up doing was completely blowing my budget ..
