I was out shooting a couple rounds of trap today WOW it feel good i had not shot my wingmaster in about a year  (its a safe queen)the first round i shot a 22 second round was wobble trap i shot 23:dancingbanana: .My question is are these score and good to shoot in a trap compation any is a Ren 870 wingmaster with a fix Mod choke any good to use :ar15:

In a Trapshooting comp. you can shoot in 3 events, all have diff. classes depending on your average,A (AVG. 96-100)B(avg. 92-96) you get the idea.....usually 4 classes........first time shooters usually are put in B or A class to establish an average....this holds true for 16yd. singles and doubles....in handicap you start at the 20yd. line and work your way back. A normal day of competition is 300 birds, 100 singles, 100 handicap, 50pr.doubles, you can shoot 1 event or all 3. To win in A class you usually have to shoot a 99 or 100 in singles, bigger shoots have AA class and even AAA class to keep the top shooters together.

The second question of yours re: 870 pump suitability.....for 16yd. singles your gun and choke is fine, for handicap you should be okay until you move a bit further back, in doubles your pump will require more work/practice as timing is important but with enough work it can be successful. Once you have shot enough Trap and enjoy it, you will probably buy a gun designed for Trap shooting, ie: higher stock, higher rib, longer barrel, better trigger, more doubles friendly, etc.

thanks for the info i do have an O/U that i shoot alot of times. I just enjoyed shooting my 870 today that id like to try it more if it was ok for trap

I shoot an 870TB IM choke for lots of singles and my handicap. ( Granted, my handicap is not alot past the 16 yard line.) I have also shot it quite well for doubles. If it pumps good and smooth, I would not hesitate to shoot a few rounds of doubles with it.

Bufalobill's improved mod. is a much better choke for trap than mod. esp. for Handicap and the second shot of doubles. The o/u has an advantage at doubles as you can use a more open choke for the first shot(close) and a tighter choke for the second shot!
