I’m interested in anyone’s experience with either of these tripods: Vortex HC-2 or PIG0331-G as a shooting platform. I’m going to be using it at the range for CPRS and will not be taking it hunting or packing it anywhere. I may use it for my Razor HD 85mm as well.

The Vortex is for glass. It will be to light duty for any rifle shooting. The Pig will be more money because you still need to buy a ball head. Innoreal make great carbon fiber ones for not much more money (this is what I use). If $250 is your limit then I would look at a Bog Hog Death Grip.

The HC-2 is rated at 22lb, and the Pig at 26lb so I didn’t think there would be that much difference. I’ll take a look at the Innoreal and BOG

I am seeing the HC-2 rated at 5lbs payload.
Any other suggestions in he $250 price point.

The BOG stuff is in my price range but a lot of bad reviews and many say they give no customer support. Any good experiences with them here?

The Innorel rt80c is rated for 20kg, and I think it's right around $250 on Amazon. Guys here seem to have good things to say about the bigger rt90c.

I don't know about the rt80, but the rt90 has been excellent. Very strong and sturdy and the N52 ball head is excellent also. More than what you want to spend but I'd guess the rt80 is of similar value.
I had the PIG0311 and the rt90 is better in every way. I'd assume the Pig is more robust vs the vortex.

I checked out both, price on RT80 is good but I am being difficult and want lever locking legs, not twist. Dexterity issues
If the BOG Death Grip's head was replaceable with an ARCA clamp I would go that route. The BOG Great Divide looks like it would do the trick but it is the one getting all the poor reviews.

The Pig 0311 is just a green cerakoted Slik D700X. Save some cash and get the Slik and put the extra cash into the best ballhead/levelling base you can afford. The weight rating on the ballhead is more important than the weight rating on the legs (provided the legs are at least rated for the weight of your rifle system). The higher the weight rating, the more stable/less slop in the ballhead. A good, reasonably priced entry level shooting tripod is the Slik D700X with a Sirui K40X ballhead. I used that setup in centre fire matches for years. The used to have a list of suitable ballheads on the Shadow Tech (Hogsaddle) website.

I don't have any experience with the Vortex but if it comes with that style of head (with the long handle) you don't want that for shooting never mind that it doesn't have the weight rating of something like the Sirui I suggested.

My slik D700X did not come with the ability to insert the feet spikes which would have been nice as it tends to slip on ice/dirt. But functionality is about the same. Theres a carbon fiber model of the pig tripod which may save some weight.

Yeah, you're right, no spike feet with the D700X. That being said, I've shot off numerous different tripods (that can take spike feet) in most conditions imaginable and have never used the spikes...

Ok, I got my Innorel setup linked above. Feels like a solid bit of kit. Only have an air rifle on there right now... still waiting on PAL...

Ball locks up nicely and pivots smoothly. The Pan, I would like to see hold a little better. Also the knob for pan seems to back out some on it's own and becomes too easy to pivot. I may try to add some orings between knob and base to see if the friction will keep it in place.

Overall I am happy with my purchase, especially since being in a wheelchair it gives me more options than shooting from a bench.

Thanks GG, was considering this same set up myself. The pan is a concern however, but how tight is the bowl on the tripod legs themselves?

The Bowl on the Tripod I actually haven't touched. Any adjustment for tilt I have done at the Head.
So I would say the Bowl is solid, hasn't budged from factory setting.
